Introduced California Bill Forces Websites to Have Their Publications “Fact-Checked”

-by Paul A Philips

Free speech is seriously under threat again. This time it’s in the form of a new Bill entitled the “SB1424. Internet: social media: false information: strategic plan.” The new bill has been proposed by Senator Richard Pan for the State of California.

The Bill would force websites to have their publications undergo a filtering process by state-approved fact-checkers. The 1424 Senate Bill has yet to establish who the fact-checkers will be and what exactly distinguishes the fact-checking criteria.

Here are the details:

“This bill would require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Web site. The bill would require the plan to include, among other things, a plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories, the utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories, providing outreach to social media users, and placing a warning on a news story containing false information.”

In a free country you are your own fact-checker: The plain and simple truth of this is that if the 1424 Bill is approved, the California citizens will be subjected to totalitarian censorship under the guise of the fake news” label.  Devoid of objectivity or credibility, this would greatly restrict social media news, online publishers and suppress free speech.

Consider how this would affect society: If your viewpoints are not part of the narrative dictated by the select few in power having highly questionable ulterior motives and agendas, then you could be haplessly buried in censorship…

Truth - the biggest enemy of a totalitarian state

Any government that does not allow free speech is indeed undemocratic and has something to hide. Big Brother is watching you, but who’s watching Big Brother? In a country that is un-free, truth is the biggest enemy of the state, that’s why it has to be authorized.

Akin to oppressive countries like China and North Korea, how far are the authoritarians prepared to take this censorship. As the saying goes “give them an inch and they’ll take a mile:” If the SB1424 Bill is approved, not just California, will this undemocratic censorship then go on to be enacted in other U.S. States?

And then what?

-Alternative media authors have justifiably stated that another form of censorship, the new Social Credit System in China, could find its way into the Western World. For our freedom’s sake and for our children’s children, we have to do all we can to stop this cancerous censorship from growing, whatever the sources may be.

Senator Richard Pan

Besides Pan, another authoritarian California Senator, Hannah Beth Jackson, has authored and proposed Senate Bill 947, which aims to grant authority to California schools to teach kids how to recognize “fake news.” In other words, get them at an early age. (Parents: How about teaching your kids how to recognize fake Senators?!”)

Another one authored by Pan is the state mandated vaccination schedule. In short, it mandates that children must be vaccinated before attending public school. Of course, the state-sponsored fact-checkers would flag down the clear evidence to show that unvaccinated children are better off than those vaccinated and would indeed label this as “fake news.” Yes, the same would also happen to other vaccine truths…

Rights to free speech

Remember, as the 1st Amendment says, you have a constitutional right to say what you want without government interference. Regardless of whether it’s real or “fake news.” you can still post. You don't need government protection from polarizing internet speech: In a free country you are your own fact-checker.
